ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses many of the experimental techniques commonly used when working with avian species in a research setting. Advanced techniques such as surgical procedures or operant conditioning are beyond the scope of this work. Since species variations may affect the feasibility or methods for some procedures, the reader is advised to review the unique biology and behavior of the avian species at hand prior to initiating work. Additionally, proper training of personnel employing these techniques is essential to ensure human and animal safety and welfare.
