ABSTRACT

Chapters 2, 3, and 4 have discussed concepts in social networks, data security and privacy, and data mining. These three supporting technologies lay the foundations for the concepts discussed in this book. For example, Section II describes social network analytics where we integrate data mining with social network technologies. Section III describes access control for social networks and privacy violations that could occur in social networks due to data mining. That is, we integrate social networks, data mining, and data privacy in Section III. Security aspects are discussed in Section IV. In this chapter, we discuss two additional technologies that we have used in several of the chapters in this book. They are cloud computing and semantic web technologies. While these two technologies are not foundational technologies, for Sections III, IV, and V of this book, an understanding of these technologies is essential for the experimental systems we have developed, to be discussed in Sections VI, VII, and VIII.
