ABSTRACT

Scalp acupuncture, also referred to as head needle therapy, is a specialized acupuncture of the head region. The practice of scalp acupuncture is a modern aspect of oriental medicine. It is divided into two different methods: (1) Chinese scalp acupuncture (CSA) and (2) Yamamoto new scalp acupuncture (YNSA). CSA is a technique based on an elementary understanding of the functional neuroanatomy underlying the points. The YNSA technique is based on a system known as somatotopic representation, in which zones of the head directly represent areas of the body.
