ABSTRACT

Arguably, the most fundamental concept in organic chemistry is the nature of the bond between two carbon atoms or between carbon and another atom. erefore, the place to begin a study of organic chemistry is with chemical bonds of carbon to carbon, carbon to hydrogen, or carbon to other select atoms. For the most part, the bonds between carbon and another atom are covalent. Ionic bonds will be seen, but usually in the context of forming an ionic bond by a chemical reaction. e initial focus will be on covalent bonds between two carbon atoms or covalent bonds on a dierent atom to carbon.
