ABSTRACT

Value stream maps can be very useful tools in designing a new way of doing business, but they represent only the beginning of the Lean journey. To embrace value stream management as a way of doing business, companies must implement the future state maps rapidly within an organization committed to realizing the improvements. There are many ways to go about prioritizing and implementing the changes required by the future state map, and we will certainly make several suggestions later in this chapter. But first, it is necessary to truly understand what the future state represents, as well as the general approach that organizations must take during implementation.
