ABSTRACT

The performance and efficiency of the simple cycle models considered in Chapter 2 are independent of the properties of the working fluids in use. However, accurate prediction of the capacity and efficiency of a real machine is dependent on the properties of the working fluids. Both the first cost and the operating cost of an absorption machine are strongly dependent on the working fluid properties. This chapter describes the properties of ammonia/water and water/lithium bromide mixtures, which are the conventional absorption working fluids. Typical diagrams of fluid properties are presented and discussed, and the methods of determination of the properties necessary for cycle calculations are explained in detail.
