ABSTRACT

Section III (Chapters 6 through 8) of this workbook covers the second Training Within Industry (TWI) program, Job Methods (JM) improvement. The best way to understand JM is to see how it is applied to an actual job. This chapter presents a detailed example of the methodology (both before and after improvements) of a particular job-the assembly and packing of the microwave shield. Chapter 7 shows how the supervisor used the JM four-step method to improve this sample job while explaining each of the steps in detail. Team members will apply these steps to improve their practice jobs. Chapter 8 provides a detailed discussion of how to apply the improved method using a written proposal. The TWI note below provides an overview of JM and explains how it differs from JI and JR. The first section of this chapter considers what kinds of work JM can improve.
