ABSTRACT
The most common cell shapes are spherical (coccus), rod-shaped (bacterium), slightly curved (vibrio), and helix-like (spirillum). The cells cannot be disconnected after cell division. These connected cells form sheath-covered or uncovered laments of cells, chains of cells, or 2D or 3D structures (Figure 7.3).
