ABSTRACT
There are many important functions of Gram-negative, chemotrophic, anoxic bacteria in engineering systems that use the following biotechnological processes:
1. Biotechnological methods coupled with the reduction of sulfate for the removal of heavy metals or sulfate
2. Biotechnological methods coupled with the reduction of nitrate and nitrite for denitrication of wastewater and anoxic biodegradation of organic substances
3. Biotechnological methods coupled with the reduction of Fe3+ for the removal of phosphate and anoxic biodegradation of organic substances
