ABSTRACT

We intend for these processes to apply to threat management activities in a variety of venues. We recognize that the threat manager’s role varies depending on the context in which that role operates. Threat managers, and the teams with whom they partner, differ depending on the size of the organization or institution, whether it is public or private, whether it is law enforcement or not, and who or what is being protected. The threat manager’s authority and the scope of the threat manager’s functions also vary from venue to venue. Threat managers specializing in celebrities face different challenges from threat managers working in schools or universities. Protecting judicial officials raises different demands from protecting corporate chief executive officers (CEOs). Gathering places such as sports stadiums and shopping malls also have special issues that threat managers face. The threat manager’s role likewise depends on whether the threat manager’s functions are in-house or outsourced and whether the threat management process is an ongoing function within the organization or institution or a one-time response to a specific event. Yet, regardless of the venue, the threat management process remains the same.
