ABSTRACT

Historically, the viruses in the genus Pestivirus have been named and classied based on host species origins. BDV hosts are sheep and goats, BVDV-1 and BVDV-2 are bovine related, and CSFV infects pigs [6]. Since it is later discovered that pestivirus could easily infect cross-species, this earlier classication scheme has serious limitations and falls short in practical application. This is further evident with more unclassied pestiviruses being discovered recently, including “Hobi-like” pestiviruses of bovine origin, mainly detected
