ABSTRACT

Papillomatosis is generally described as a group of diseases/ disorders in which the most notable clinical symptoms are hyperkeratotic lesions that lead to tissue damage. It has been found in virtually all vertebrate species, including reptiles, birds, and mammals [1]. The correlated lesions are usually characterized as warts or papillomas, and their development may result in different grades of cutaneous and/or mucosal tumors, including cancers. Among mammals, human and bovine papillomatosis have been best studied. It has been shown that bovine papillomavirus (BPV) has the ability to infect other hosts, particularly equines, causing a disease known as sarcoids. Furthermore, malignant tumors are also associated with BPV infection in cattle.
