ABSTRACT

Membrane separation technology has attracted great attention in recent years. Membrane technologies have been established as very effective and promising technologies for separation and purification processes in dealing with biochemical, pharmaceuticals and foods. Compared with the above-mentioned traditional separation methods, ultrafiltration (UF) can be a feasible alternative due to various advantages, including high mechanical strength, high selectivity and low energy consumption. Commercially available poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) UF membranes have received great attention relying on its outstanding properties such as no phase change, high mechanical strength, corrosion resistance, thermal stability, chemical stability etc.. PVDF UF membrane has been widely used in wastewater treatment and medicine field. However, the serious membrane fouling is a major impediment to the use of membrane separation technology in this field. On the other hand, the operation parameters and the character of the membranes also affect the separation of the biochemical.
