Owing to their unique properties and the recent developments in synthesis methods, current and potential applications of nanomaterials are rapidly expanding into many industries and markets. For the successful development of nano-enabled commercial products, it is critical to understand the unique properties of nanoparticles and how the desired properties can be manifested in the end products. This chapter gives an overview of the unique properties and characteristics of nanoparticulate materials.
