ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on integrating the changes into the operations of an enterprise. It uses the nomenclature Business As Usual to connote the ongoing operations. Transition management comes into picture once the concerned outputs from the project have been tested and approved to “go live.” Broadly, the overall transition management can be divided into three steps, coming under the program execution phase and benefits realization sub-phase. These steps include: Pre-transition, Transition, and Post-transition. Pre-transition typically coincides with the project management lifecycle of the projects for each of the iterations of the program execution phase. After the project outputs are tested and accepted, they are transitioned into live operations. Again, it is the responsibility of the Functional Managers to decide on the timing of these changes, as it is their business operations that ultimately will bear the brunt of these changes. During Post-transition, the operational departments have sustained outcomes.
