ABSTRACT

An Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO) is a combination of permanent and temporary offices set up to support change initiatives at various layers in an enterprise. The EPMO can include a centralized permanent structure to support the portfolio management functions, together with a group of temporary offices to support specific programs and projects. The structure of the EPMO, to a large extent, depends on the Portfolio, Program and Project Management maturity of the organization and the number of change initiatives it runs. As the name implies, Center of Excellence sets standards for program and project management planning and execution. Temporary Project/Program Offices are set up and run with the concomitant projects and programs and are, thus, temporary in nature. If a present EPMO exists, the functions and services provided by the EPMO need to be assessed to see if they are meeting the executives’ expectations.
