ABSTRACT

Patent 6,132,850 represents a different method of applying a thermal transfer adhesive. Higher thermal conductance is attained if we impregnate alumina particles tightly packed into the bondline void. The frozen premix concept could be extended beyond thermal transfer adhesive to applications such as conformal coatings, encapsulants, casting compounds, molding compounds, sealants, and others. The new filleting adhesive became Hacthane 100, a polybutadiene-based polyurethane rubber cured with an aliphatic diiso-cyanate, which gave the uncured rubber a multi-month storage life as a frozen premix. Patent 5,367,006 was the result of a very extensive formulating effort to improve the dielectric properties of Flexipoxy 100 and extend its low-temperature service range. It was a secondary goal to be able to have the filleting adhesive and the film adhesive should be of the same formulation. The frozen premix concept could be extended beyond thermal transfer adhesive to applications such as conformal coatings, encapsulants, casting compounds, molding compounds, sealants, and others.
