ABSTRACT

Many applications in electronic assembly involve filling a volumetric space with a dielectric polymer to protect the circuitry inside that space. These polymeric materials are called encapsulants if they can stand alone and potting compounds if they require a permanent can or container for exterior protection. Hacthane 115 is superior to Hacthane 110 in two major ways: the best antioxidant at its optimum concentration is in the Hacthane 115 formulation; the adhesion of the potting compound to its container has been optimized by incorporating Cardolite NC-547 into the formulation. Hacthane 115 potting compound was developed to survive in the very hostile environment of an automobile engine compartment. Autos are designed to function in all of the climates of the world, so this potting compound can function anywhere in the world. Flexible epoxies are uniquely suited for use as impregnants due to their versatility; they can easily be formulated to have the properties required for different applications.
