ABSTRACT

Guar gum, also called guaran, is a galactomannan. It is primarily the ground endosperm of guar beans. It is native to northwestern parts of India and Pakistan. Guar gum is hydrophilic in nature, economical, non-toxic, and easily available, and its biodegradable nature makes it suitable for a wide range of pharmaceutical

applications [5]. Guar gum and its derivatives have wide applications in textile and food industries. Guar gum is generally considered a potential candidate for colon targeted drug delivery application due to its drug release retarding property, stability over wide pH range, and susceptibility to microbial degradation in the large intestine [6-8].
