ABSTRACT

Standards for the use of mineral admixtures in cementitious systems may be grouped into two. The first group is related to the properties of mineral admixtures to be used as basic ingredients in cements, whereas the second group is related to their properties when used as a basic ingredient in concrete. Many countries throughout the world have their own standards on mineral admixtures for cement and concrete. However, the discussion here will be confined to the ones prepared by two widely known international standards organisations, the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) since they are more commonly accepted and used. Standard specifications issued by ASTM and CEN on mineral admixtures for concrete and blended cements are listed in Table 13.1.
