ABSTRACT

In cement and concrete jargon the term slag usually means blast furnace slag (BFS) which is a by-product of pig iron production. Actually, in the general sense of the term, slags are by-products of pyro-metallurgical processes in the metal and alloy industries. Their compositions and amounts depend on the process by which the slag is formed and on the materials used in the process. Typical chemical compositions of various metallurgical slags are given in Table 4.1.
