ABSTRACT

Over the past 30 years, there has been a twofold increase in obesity rates in children aged 2-5 years, and a threefold increase in children aged 6-11 years and adolescents 12-19 years (Ogden et al. 2012). Currently, obesity prevalence increases from early childhood (8.4% of 2-5-year-olds) to early adolescence (17.7% of 6-11-year-olds) (Ogden et al. 2014), and risk for overweight or obesity increases into adulthood for children who are overweight or obese as youth (Ferraro et al. 2003).
