ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book presents the overall framework for sustainable use of materials in the construction and building sector. It describes the demolition, including planning, design, contracting and implementation of contracts. The book also presents the state-of-the-art for recycling concrete, masonry, asphalt and other materials. It focuses on integrated Disaster waste management, with respect to recycling and substituting secondary resources in the reconstruction processes. The book explains the presentation of the life cycle of structures and the elements of the life cycle followed by a brief presentation of a life cycle assessment. It inspires all persons involved in urban development, building and construction projects to think in terms of simple solutions about saving resources and money. The book focuses on recycling traditional materials from the building and construction sector.
