ABSTRACT

The integrated construction and demolition waste (CDW) management is project-oriented and focused on greater building and construction projects, or urban renewal/rehabilitation programs including transformation of existing structures into new structures. The preconditions for integrated CDW management must be viewed through two perspectives: the waste perspective and resource perspective. The CDW management should be considered as an integrated element of the overall logistic management of urban development projects including all kinds of products and resources. Planning and management of CDW handling calls for systematic thinking and simple computer programs. Usually, the demolition work and CDW production start some time before the need for materials in construction of the new building. According to EU regulation, reuse and recycling of CDW requires that materials are clean without hazardous materials. Like single-recycling projects, the challenge of comprehensive integrated CDW management in multiple-recycling projects is the transformation of the CDW to demanded resources.
