ABSTRACT
The legal department or manager's outside counsel is an obvious and important stakeholder. Of course, in some cases manager are the owner of the data and thereby have the control and access necessary to acquire it. In the case of computer data managed by the desktop technicians such as logon/ logoff data or Internet search information, the actual “ownership” might be more correctly assigned to the company. Take the time to consider all of the places that possibly relevant electronic evidence might reside and who would have ownership of and access to that data. Most importantly, recognizing that this is a dynamic document and a moving target, manager need to ensure someone has ownership and maintenance responsibilities for the directory. The ownership and control of the information manager are seeking is going to be within the police command structure.
