ABSTRACT
In this chapter we will be considering the structures of silicate and aluminosilicate minerals, which form the bulk of the Earth’s outer layers, and the types of rocks that are formed from these and other minerals. We will also see how these rocks are broken down and recycled. We will discuss the nature of soil, and consider aspects of soil pollution. First, however, we will learn about the formation and structure of the Earth.
