ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the background for the laser management of raised intraocular pressure. It presents equipment list, laser settings, consent, procedure, post-operative consideration, and pearls required for the Yag peripheral iridotomy, selective laser trabeculoplasty, argon-laser trabeculoplasty. The Yag peripheral iridotomy aim to provide alternative routes of aqueous flow from posterior to anterior chamber in cases of pupil block where the normal transpupillary pathways are compromised. The aim of the selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) is to increase aqueous drainage by opening the trabecular meshwork. Argon-laser trabeculoplasty follows the same procedure as SLT, but the burns are applied to the junction of the pigmented and non-pigmented meshwork.
