ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the basic principles of the cover testing with clinical applications. A bullet-pointed, step-by-step walk-through of the key steps for the skill, with specific pearls, are presented. The chapter provides a list of equipment required for performing cover testing. The chapter presents the step-by-step process for performing practical procedures of the cover testing. It explains how to detect a manifest deviation and a latent deviation. The chapter also provides step-by-step process for performing alternate cover test and prism cover test. The cover test is used to demonstrate the presence of a manifest deviation. The alternate cover test is used to measure manifest (tropic) and latent (phoric) deviation and is a continuation of the cover test. The prism cover test allows for quantitative assessment and documentation of the angle of deviation.
