ABSTRACT

The previous chapters have considered the design of wards and homes, and also considered a possible rôle for assistive technologies and ambient assisted living as important innovations for wellbeing in dementia. That is clearly not the ‘end of the story’ for an individual ‘living well with dementia’. There are two further important components to consider: fi rst, the outside ‘built’ environment (the focus of Chapter 16), and second, (the focus of Chapter 17), the wider ‘dementia-friendly community’.
