INTRADERMAL NAEVUS This is a skin-coloured melanocytic naevus. All the naevus cells are in the dermis so pigment is no longer seen on the surface (see p. 303). It is a small, round, dome-shaped or papillomatous papule. Occasionally telangiectasia can be seen on the surface, but the lack of growth, long history and symmetrical dome shape distinguish it from a basal cell carcinoma. They are sometimes pedunculated, and can be diffi cult to distinguish from neurofi bromas or skin tags. If necessary they can be removed by shaving them off fl ush with the skin, and cauterising the base with heat or aluminium chloride solution (Driclor, Anhydrol Forte).
