ABSTRACT
Flow resistance is a measure of the friction between the water and the base of the channel and the slopes of the banks. For a given flow depth or discharge, flow resistance laws allow the determination of the mean flow velocity in the channel as a function of the channel geometry and the bed roughness. The quantification of the flow resistance is also important for the calculation of bedload transport.
