ABSTRACT

Numerous text books deal with fire dynamics in enclosures (e.g., Karlsson & Quintiere, 2000; Quintiere, 2006; Drysdale, 2011; Quintiere, 2002). In this chapter, focus will be on fluid mechanics aspects involved. Several possible stages of an evolving fire in an enclosure are considered. First, however, some general aspects of flow through openings, valid for all these stages, are summarized.
