ABSTRACT

Analysis of coal is very important from a point of view for the selection of coal for definite purpose like combustion, carbonization, gasification and liquefaction. Proximate analysis is the most often used type of analysis for characterizing coals in connection with their utilization. The proximate analysis determines the percentage of moisture, volatile matter, ash and fixed carbon. Proximate analysis is much more readily made and gives a preliminary indication of quality and suitability for various uses. It also affords a means of providing commercial classification.
