ABSTRACT

Coking coals are the coals when heated out of contact with air, volatile matter gets removed and carbon particles join each other to form a porous cellular mass with sufficient strength, called coke. These coals are also called as metallurgical coals. Coking coals form a part of the bituminous group. Peat, Lignite, Sub-bituminous, Semi-anthracite and Anthracite are all non-coking coals. So also are some of the bituminous coals. Non-coking coals are mainly used for power generation.
