ABSTRACT
William Henry Welch (1850–1934) was an American physician and pathologist. He was one of the founders of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and subsequently of the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health. Dedicated to medical education, he became known as the ‘Dean of American Medicine’. He was another advocate of lifelong learning: ‘medical education is not completed at the medical school: it is only begun’ ( 2 ).
