ABSTRACT

Facility managers in developed nations face unique situations when it comes to the parking of vehicles around the facility. Parking lots at facilities are wide open, allowing anyone to park whenever they feel and wherever they wish. An issue with snow fall in parking lots for facility managers to consider is that when the lines of a parking lot are covered, people begin parking too far away from each other when they cannot see the lines. Most large facilities and major box stores have visitor parking areas, which for large box stores would comprise most of their parking areas. Long-term parking in facility lots must be tightly controlled, again since any extra vehicles reduce the percentage of available space for daily traffic and may contribute to congestion in the lot. Facilities management and/or security must always remain in control of the parking lots or chaos will take over, eventually leading to a crisis that will attract the attention of executives.
