ABSTRACT

Key control is a basic requirement in every facility around the world. By effectively controlling keys, access to facilities is limited to those who are actually supposed to be there and have an interest in maintaining the safety and security of the facility. Key control in a private household is easily maintained and will serve as basic strategy in explaining key control theory. Large facilities should have a planned and organized approach to key control using an electronic key control cabinet that is programmed and maintained by the master key holder. Apartment buildings have a constant turnover of tenants and key control is very difficult to maintain in such buildings. Electronic access control is perhaps one of the greatest advances in facility management and security to come along in the modern age. Magnetic locks are found in most large facilities controlling the main access and egress doors from a central fire evacuation system and/or a security system.
