ABSTRACT
Organisation development (OD) appears to be one of those concepts that mean different things to different people. Kath and Emma had been commissioned to examine the level and causes of stress among medical consultants in a medium-sized general hospital. Alison was a highly effective adviser and consultant, and her 'engineering' approach to OD was greatly valued by a wide range of hospital managers and clinicians. J. D Adam is a 'people-person' and has worked in healthcare management all of his working life. T. Peter would develop computer-based systems that would map the full extent of the issues that his primary care colleagues/clients had rather naively and short-sightedly thought only pertained to one part of the healthcare system. A golden rule for any facilitator is that they should never cross the line between facilitator and client and carry out the job of managing in the place of the client.
