ABSTRACT

No leader can accomplish great things alone. The reality is that the role of the leader is to lead teams to success and then allow them to enjoy that success. Simon Sinek writes that leaders should be of a higher purpose of taking care of the team first. He further states that organizational successes and failure are clearly a result of leadership when many individuals still believe that it is managerial acumen that is responsible. These are two different competencies. The leader needs managerial acumen, however, they will not be successful without superb leadership and the ability to move teams to success. The formation processes of team have been studied over time by many theorists. There is a consistent model of progression of teams as they come together. In the beginning, teams will not perform well despite the homogeneous nature of the members. Bringing together individuals from varying backgrounds will add another more challenging element to team evolution.
