ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on some very important behaviors coupled with strategies to include these in your leadership development plan. These behaviors include visibility and accessibility, role modeling, proactivity versus reactivity, utilization of data and aligning of vision and mission. Role modeling needs to be done effectively by positive role models and not negative ones. It is not uncommon to have new staff start and be paired with preceptors or staff that are negative. One leader cannot do anything alone but it is also true that one leader cannot effectively analyze and manage all problems personally across the organization. To improve the reach of the leader, all leaders in the organization need to have a good grasp of data and quality improvement. Vision is a futuristic concept focused on what the organization aspires to be. If communicated effectively across the organization, this can be very exciting to the staff.
