ABSTRACT

The Brazilian subregion comprises central and southern Mexico, Central America, and northwestern South America (Morrone, 2014b,c). The northern portion of the Brazilian subregion (Mexico and Central America) was assigned previously to the Caribbean subregion (e.g., Cabrera and Willink, 1973; Morrone, 2001a, 2006), but it has been shown recently that the Antilles should be separated as a distinct subregion (Nihei and de Carvalho, 2007; Sigrist and Carvalho, 2009; Morrone, 2014b,c).
