ABSTRACT

An important component of any land-use/land cover classification the accuracy assessment. This operation represents the reliability and theoretical repeatability of the thematic classification. An accuracy assessment is typically accomplished by producing an error matrix. The error matrix produces two types of accuracy estimates, known as producer's accuracy and user's accuracy. Error matrices are useful for determining the classes that are most likely to be confused with other classes found within the thematic classification. This exercise will generate an accuracy assessment to determine estimates of overall and individual class accuracies within a land cover classification.
