ABSTRACT
The Shigeo Shingo Institute recommends the Shingo Insight assessment process, because it directly focuses on the Shingo Guiding Principles and gives the surveyed company a tool that will allow them to have insight to their strengths and shortcomings. The benefits of using Shingo Insight are twofold. First, this internal assessment provides a reasonably quick, value-oriented, and easy path to establishing the baseline of the organizational culture, finding gaps to address, and understanding how an organization aligns to the guiding principles in the Shingo Model. Secondly, when combined with the feedback organizations receive from a team of Shingo examiners when they challenge for the Shingo Prize can complete the whole picture of where an organization stands in relation to Shingo Prize standards and how it can accelerate its journey of operational excellence. Another form of assessment that is utilized by a large number of companies is the Shingo Prize assessment process.
