ABSTRACT
Piles are often used to support superstructure loads not as single, individual piles, but as part of a group. Group piles interact when acted upon by superstructure loads, with loads being transferred between the piles through the soil separating them. These interactions lead to individual pile responses that differ from that of a single pile and must therefore be considered in design. This chapter covers pile group response under vertical and lateral loadings.
