ABSTRACT

The size is the relative dimension and proportion of an object and its relationship to the objects around it. Playing with the sizes of objects within a group creates a tension between them and intensifies their relationship but also defines their relative size. With the use of lenses with a shallow field of depth to avoid blur, characters or objects can be put together in one shot that diminishes their size differences and allows unusual views. Size is also affected by the object’s line quality and thickness. The only way color affects size is by changing the color attributes of the object to generate color perspective, which can only be fully judged in relationship with objects surrounding it. Size is relative and it is always ambiguous on its own, but even less so within a clearly defined frame that does not necessarily clarify the distance of the object to the viewer immediately.
