ABSTRACT

People have different reasons why they are attracted to the study and production of animation and animation-related artwork, and all their reasons are of course valid; nevertheless, one should first think about the purpose of animation in general. Fine art comes with the experimentation and the exploration of the medium animation in an artistic playground, whereas commercialism comes with the goal of entertaining the audience through mostly traditional storytelling techniques that are expressed with character-driven animated visuals. Development art for movies or games is technically illustrations; it clarifies the look of a movie, suggests visual possibilities, and clearly defines how characters, objects, and the environment of a movie can or will look like. Education has a very special place in art and animation, as it has to follow a specific format to actually be educational.
