ABSTRACT

Vectors are visual devices that assist the eye in being sometimes guided, sometimes forced towards that very focal point or other significant elements within the frame. Vectors can be seen as a street system through which the eye wanders through the image, a street system that the artist builds. Index vectors are lines that are clearly going in one direction, defining with them not just a connection between two parts but also giving them a clear direction. The vectors are so dominant that the eye constantly moves into the sky, even when one tries to stay focused on the architecture, the visual forces of the roof push the eye upwards. Vectors not only give a direction, but they also connect objects and characters with each other and thus affect storytelling.
