Differentiation of Sensory and Neuronal Cell Types from Neurogenic Placodes

After reviewing the common mechanisms regulating the formation of placodal neurons and sensory cells in the last chapter, I will now discuss how these mechanisms are modulated to produce specific neurons and sensory cells from individual placodes. For each placode, I will first provide an overview of structure and function of the various cell types derived from it, and will then review what we currently know about the transcription factors regulating specification and differentiation of these cell types.
