ABSTRACT

Determining the three-dimensional thermal stresses induced in solids due to changes in temperature are the subject of this chapter. Examples covered include thick-walled cylinders subjected to axisymmetric temperatures T(r, z), spheres subjected to temperatures symmetric about the center, T(r), and structural components subjected to steady-state heat flows disturbed by the presence of various flaws or cracks including circular, elliptical, and semi-infinite horizontal planes.
