ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses building cost models that have been published in Building magazine. Although the scope and coverage of the cost models has expanded considerably, the objectives have always remained constant. They are: to provide detailed elemental cost information derived from a generic building that can be applied to other projects; to provide a commentary on cost drivers and other design and specification issues; and to compare suitable procurement routes that secure the clients objectives. The chapter also discusses updated elemental cost data for several building types. Given models are based around actual projects and are intended as an indication to build costs only. There are many factors which need to be considered when putting together an early cost plan or estimate and all need to be considered when arriving at a Cost Plan for any particular project.
